Businesspeople are self-starting entrepreneurs willing to take a risk to pursue their dream, all good. That typically translates to a laser focused mindset, goals, and self-discipline to overcome the normal rigors of business. Setbacks and failures are simply challenges that must be foreseen and overcome. That laser focus becomes our “one thing.”

The motivation behind this singular purpose is making money while pursuing my dream. It’s something most of us aspire to, and contrast with working a job. In a Christian business, we often summarize the whole package as “God’s will” and if our hard work, dedication, and stellar work ethic prosper, we call it God’s blessing and have verses to prove the recipe.
Kingdom Business has a slightly different twist. We don’t assume my dream is God’s will.

Note: there is a whole quasi-spiritual movement of people who quote the god of the universe as giving them their dream, granting their hearts desire. The problem is that he never says no. His answer is always the same; Whatever you want, I will give you! It’s a clever theological scheme that tries to receive the blessing without the discipline, every 2-year old’s perfect father.
Now, to be fair, we always start by asking our clients about the desires of their heart. God did write them on our hearts, so there are often clues about our calling in the desires of our heart. However, those desires are generic, relative to what Father is doing right now! Purpose is not defined by what we are good at or what makes us happy.

1) Jesus did what he saw Father doing, specifically (Jn 5:19)
2) He said what he saw in the Father’s presence (Jn 8:38)
3) He spoke about what his Father instructed him to say (Jn 12:49)

One thing – As sons, our one thing is whatever is in Father’s heart (Mt 6:33). We are not spiritual robots with no free will, but we are sons who have rapport with our Father and grasp the desires of His heart and volunteer to share them. There is lots of room for creativity and initiative under the umbrella of Father’s dynamic Purpose as seen in Living Words from daily conversations. Sonship is a relational place of being on the same page with Father, such that we find the overlap between his heart’s desire our ours. Kingdom business is an intentional shift:

1) From – my introverted desires and making money (it’s all about me, my products, service)
2) To – Co-laboring with Father’s purpose in His anointing (it’s about what Father is doing)

From a business perspective, Father’s purpose is much more profitable in this life and the life to come. In fact, it’s immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, “and” it releases His power in His sons (anointing). The contrast is running a business in your own power vs running a business with your Father’s anointing – It’s night and day different, better.

Eph 3:20 – Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
                   according to his power that is at work within us

Leadership redefined – There is an endless circuit of new training on new recipes for success in turning your entrepreneurial dreams into profits. People do want Health, Wealth, and Relationships and businesses provide those things. We are not saying those are bad things (Father knows we need them). The whole world is running after all these things, yet they are void of real purpose. They don’t ultimately define happiness or success. Money, nor the things you can buy with it, does not satisfy the deepest desire of your heart. They do not define treasures in heaven. There is something more!

So, what are the real goals that Kingdom leaders champion in sons?

1)  It isn’t who you are or what you can do, it’s releasing what Father can do through you in concert with what He is doing.

2)  The metrics for maturity in business are:

a. Can you hear and see Father’s purpose (Ascension)?
b. Can you follow the Lamb (co-labor with anointing)?
c. Can you have Conversations around Father’s purpose (Council)?
d. Can you navigate spiritual Warfare in the Courts of Heaven?

3)  Can you engage in the abundance and power of Kingdom purpose, the flow?
(Release His power at work in us as sons and daughters, Eph 3:20)

4)  Can you move beyond your own heart’s desire and engage in anointing for purpose?
(go beyond your personal desires and dreams for money)

5)  Can Father adjust your course?  …You?

a. Can He lead you with His purpose through seasons of suffering? (1Pet 4:12-19)
b. Can you receive discipline from a loving Father? (Heb 12:5-10)

David’s mighty men did exploits that went far beyond their own skills, abilities, and personal dreams. A big factor was that David trained them in One Thing: purpose and anointing to fight out of God’s power, not just their own. God engages with us when we’re engaged in His purpose.
