The Story You Can Tell Your Staff
That Inspires a Kingdom Business Culture
(Intro Video) Deep down, your best people are asking, “Does what I do matter? Was I made for something more?” The Good News answers yes. Here’s how to engage them with a true story.
One of the big challenges in instilling sonship in a business culture is that managers are about as stuck as pastors in separating tradition from Kingdom leadership. Both default to what feels safe.
Two Mindsets
The ministry mindset targets the down-and-outers, such as alcoholics and drug addicts. It is safer. It doesn’t matter much if we fail, because they aren’t threatening, and they agree with the obvious need for help. We don’t have to get our hands dirty trying to know their hearts or futures; we’re just healing the sick, casting out demons, and moving on.
The Kingdom leadership mindset starts somewhere else: with people Father is already working with regardless of status (Jn 5:19). Jesus disciples were already working, whose lives were working. They were relative up-and-comers not the sick, demonic, lame, or lepers. They were already making progress, and hungry for their next step, with vision and longing already in place that allowed them to drop everything, follow the Lamb, and become co-heirs of Father’s Kingdom.
Our job is to “market the Good News” of the Kingdom, engaging hunger and potential with faith, hope and love.
Why Leaders Hold Back
CEOs and pastors often fear their own leadership team, because the team is self-sufficient, not needy. Growing them is intimidating: we fear rejection, losing them, and repeating past failures. So we default to democratic leadership style, with no priority/courage to follow the Lamb.
What leaders are learning how to do is telling the story of what God is doing… the Gospel of the Kingdom. What Father is doing now, where we are going next, where Father is leading us.
The True Story We Tell
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God is Good News that has five elements. Each one is an invitation.
#1).  A Reformation is ongoing – God is moving through sons like you to orchestrate this Reformation. In the Divine Council worldview, Father works through sons seated in His Council that all creation has been waiting for (Rom 8:19).
#2).  Sons play a big part – You are God’s handiwork, created for good works (Eph 2:10), and for greater works (Jn 14:12). A team is being assembled, the Ezekiel 37 army is forming, and you are invited to be a co-heir, a son.
#3).  A Golden Age – We are contending for heaven on earth, with God and sons blessing people, businesses, cultural mountains and nations. It is connected to Father’s purpose through love: you are fearfully and wonderfully made, for a reason (Ps 139:14).
#4).  Father Empowers His Sons and Daughters – Father is giving practical power and authority to His sons and daughters, by His Spirit working in us (Eph 3:20) and with weapons not of this world that demolish strongholds (2 Cor 10:3-5). Nothing can defeat what is coming; sons and daughters are more than conquerors (Rom 8:37).
#5).  Our business has a Kingdom purpose – here is what it is, and you’re invited to be ignited. You also have your own personal Kingdom purpose, and we can help you find it. When personal and corporate purpose prophetically overlap, it gets exciting. People stop working for the business and start carrying it. Father’s favor is multiplied: what He can add, and what we can do through Him. You can feel the difference in the atmosphere of the business and the attitude of the staff.

7 Results of Kingdom Business Culture
God is assembling an A-Team of Sons and Daughters who can navigate their seat in Heaven, God’s Council and the Courts of Heaven. Ascension to the Courts and Council are both weapons not of this world that enable demolishing strongholds and co-laboring with Father to bless People, Businesses, Cultural Mountains, and Nations with Reformation.
#1).  Staying power.  People who engage their purpose at work and are celebrated for their contribution don’t want to leave. Disengagement drops, and when someone does move on to a higher purpose, they leave celebrated as a graduate, not grieved as a loss or a betrayal. Staff bring problems with solutions and stop waiting for instructions. Managers spend less time supervising performance and more time mentoring Sonship.
#2).  1-on-1’s.  Shared Purpose Profiles and transparent conversations mean problems surface early, and mistakes become lessons instead of cover-ups. Leaders and staff get to see one another’s purpose profiles (transparent hearts are the fruit of weekly 1-on-1’s).
#3). Â Creativity and Contribution. Â Sons help write the procedures, and better ideas come from the people closest to the work. Contributions are rooted in personal purpose and calling that is see and celebrated by the leadership team.
#4). Â Leaders multiplying leaders. Â Sons adopt fathering and disciple others, so the team grows its own bench, and the founder is no longer the bottleneck. Leaders learn to love people, grasp reformation, and the business prospers as a result. Sons do more and create more than servants. The joy, clarity, and enthusiasm are noticeable to staff, customers and visitors. The secret sauce is that a business staff with shared Kingdom purpose is really an Ecclesia. You can feel it in the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff.
#5). Â Customers and community. Â Staff who carry the mission serve customers as people and engage them on a personal level (that conveys love), so loyalty, referrals and reputation grow.
#6).  Favor and provision.  Father’s favor multiplies what He can add and what we can do through Him. Profit becomes a by-product of Father’s purpose. We are profitable and blessed in many ways in addition to cash flow – divine appointments, breakthrough creativity, new opportunities, and new networks of synergism. The business becomes something that can be passed on, with a culture and purpose that outlast any one leader. Its legacy continues to grow beyond all we could ask or imagine after we’re gone.
#7). Â Reformation beyond the building. Â The business blesses its city and other cultural mountains, and sons begin to contend for people, businesses and nations (the Reformation).

John – I love the concepts. I’m wondering if there’s a way to make the language more accessible? I’m learning your terminology as we go – but wondering if there’s a way to change some terms to something that’s easier for ‘businesspeople’ to connect to? Â
It seems like (over-simplified for sure) we’re talking about sons who have become fathers treating the people they work with as fellow sons who are discovering all that the Kingdom has to offer them. Fathers sow life and growth into their sons / daughters .. And encourage them to flourish as they grow in understanding.
I like the son vs servant illustrations you’ve had recently – they illustrate the difference between Kingdom and the “business as usual” word.
Perhaps a useful thought – CEO’s (and leaders) typically treat employees as people we pay to do a job (and once they are paid we’ve fulfilled our responsibility toward them). The sonship element really pushes us (draws us) to treat them as fathers where the ‘allowance’ we give our sons is just the first part – what we sow into their lives spiritually, as character growth, embracing Kingdom promises and paths is what matters most in where we are taking them and where they are going to go.
