Business Funds Ministry – The Expensive Lie

(Intro Video) There’s a lie circulating through the Christian business community that’s costing entrepreneurs far more than money. It’s robbing them of their sonship, their inheritance, and their role in Reformation. Worse, it’s keeping them trapped as servants in Sanctified Self-Reliance while convincing them they’re being spiritual.

The lie? “My business exists to fund ministry.”

On the surface, it sounds noble. Make money in business, give it to the “real” ministry happening elsewhere. Support missionaries. Fund church building projects. Write checks to 5-fold ministers who do Kingdom work. But this paradigm misses Father’s purpose altogether and alleviates the tension that would otherwise draw you into the Council to hear from Him directly.

The Deception Beneath the Dichotomy

This belief rests on dualism: spiritual (good) and secular (necessary evil). Ministries do God’s work while businesspeople do the dirty work to make money and support them. Ministry happens in church; business funds it from a safe distance.

It sounds humble. It’s completely backwards.

Business IS ministry. The business mountain is vital to Reformation. You’re not called to fund someone else’s vision—you’re called to co-labor with Father in your own.

Why We Protect This Lie

We cling to this paradigm because it lets us remain servants who serve another man’s vision instead of sons who know Father’s business (John 15:15). It’s easier to write a check than ascend to the Council. It’s easier to tithe than seek God.

The servant mindset creates escape:

“Giving is my calling. I’m too busy making money to be in the Council. That’s not my job—I’m just the funding source.” It sounds like religious humility. It’s really spiritual abdication.

Sons don’t fund other people’s visions. Sons hear from Father in the Council and bring Heaven to Earth through their own businesses—where Ecclesia forms, disciples are made, and Reformation advances.

The Proverbial Check – JC

Writing a check to a nonprofit is just the most obvious version of this escape. There are subtler ways to alleviate the tension of purpose without ever opening your wallet.

Prophetic placebos – Collecting prophetic words (breadcrumbs) from pastors, prophets, and friends, and then stitching them into a personal mission statement. It feels spiritual, but if it replaces sitting in the Council yourself, it’s the same abdication. You’ve outsourced your sonship to someone else’s hearing.

Hiding in Pseudo-Spirituality – The tension that drives you into the Council; the discomfort of strongholds, accusations, and the focused work of writing down what Father is actually saying to you, is not a problem to be solved. It’s the process. Writing any kind of check, literal or proverbial, makes that tension go away. And that’s exactly the point. The enemy doesn’t need you in open sin. He just needs you comfortable enough to stay out of the Council.

The Marketplace Confirms the Lie – JC

You don’t have to look far for reinforcement. At every networking event, your identity is what you do, i.e., your title, your revenue, your industry. People push past vague answers until they can label you, size you up, and file you away. The marketplace trains you to define yourself by function.

The church version is the same trap in different clothing. Your worth becomes your giving capacity. Both keep you anchored in what you produce rather than who you are as a son. Dualism doesn’t just live in theology; it lives in your business card and your giving statement.

The Four Devastating Consequences

When you believe business exists to fund ministry, you forfeit you own heritage as a son:

- Money focus without Kingdom first.Without Father’s purpose as your North Star, you default to secular models: maximize revenue, optimize systems. You’re on the all-about-me hamster wheel. The spiritual dynamic that causes money to fly away (Pro 23:5) goes unaddressed.
- Initiative without purpose.You work hard but without anointing from co-laboring with Father. The business runs on human wisdom and subtle, religious pride instead of Living Words from Council. Problems multiply without the spiritual leverage of Kingdom alignment. Accusations are allowed to fester because no one is taking them to the Courts of Heaven.
- Weariness and delay.When you put Kingdom first, Father adds “all these things” (Matthew 6:33). When you don’t, you grind. You build bigger barns instead of treasures in Heaven. Success feels hollow, shallow, and superficial, a fig leaf over your spiritual poverty.
- Missed contribution to Reformation.You’re on the bench, not in the game. Funding other people’s ministry while your Kingdom assignment goes unfulfilled. All creation waits for sons of God (Rom 8:19)—and you’re too busy making money and cutting checks to show up in your seat in the Council.

The Kingdom Inversion

Here’s what Christian business owners miss: putting Father’s purposes first unlocks supernatural competitive advantages secular strategies cannot access. This isn’t religious decor—it’s a fundamentally different Kingdom Business model that ascends to Heaven’s Courts and Council.

When you move from Christian business (money with religious performance) to Kingdom business (Father’s purpose), everything inverts: motivation shifts from human potential to Living Words, fuel changes from willpower to co-laboring, ROI expands to treasures in Heaven (sons and daughters), and resilience comes from the resurrection power of Kingdom purpose.

Tobe Finch didn’t fund health food ministry—he built 14 restaurants, a warehouse, and has a vision to decentralize food supply chains as his Reformation role. Justin Culver didn’t donate to reform organizations—he created decentralized banking to overturn corruption. That’s Kingdom business.

Three Transformations You’re Missing

Without Father’s purpose first in your business, you miss the progression Father designed:

Sonship – Sons feel chosen to put Kingdom first. They’re on the same page with Father because they have conversations with Him in the Council. They know their business has a unique assignment from God that makes sense of their Identity, Story, and Purpose. They carry Father’s Strategy and Tactics.

Ascension – Sons create value by doing what Father is doing and bringing Heaven to Earth in business. They’re not just praying for breakthrough; they’re receiving Living Words, clear purpose, and Father’s power that translates to greater works on Earth. Sons are fluent in the Courts of Heaven to refute accusations, and they are present in the Council having conversations.

Reformation – Sons are clear on their distinct role yet see the big picture. They understand how Father is moving on four levels: People, Businesses, Cities, and Nations. Their business becomes a vehicle for cultural transformation in our staff culture, clients, other businesses we help, and the city we live in. My business isn’t a funding vehicle for someone else’s purpose, I have one!

Reformation Is a Daily Practice, Not a Destination – JC

Here’s the trap inside the trap: you can pursue Reformation the same way you pursued funding ministry; as a goal to be achieved through the right checklist of flesh-driven actions. Build the platform. Launch the product. Open the bank. Reform the system. Same structure, different vocabulary.

But Reformation doesn’t work that way. It starts inside you, in the little heart reformations practiced daily; in a meeting, in a conversation, in the posture you bring to the Council this morning. Those accumulate. That’s what conditions you for the larger assignment, learning to follow the Lamb wherever because his mercies and manna are new every day.

Think of training for the Leadville 100. You don’t manage a task list toward race day. You become someone who rides it, through daily conditioning that mirrors the race itself. The big Reformation is the same. You don’t accomplish it. You become it, one small reformation at a time.

The right question isn’t: “What do I need to finish today so I can eventually reform the financial system?” The right question is: “What am I actually reforming today?”

Sons don’t fund Reformation from a distance. They embody it — in their business, their staff culture, their clients, and the daily decisions that never make the highlight reel but constitute the actual game.

The Simple Secret

Instead of putting your agenda first and asking God to bless it, intentionally put Father’s agenda first. Here’s why—it’s good for business.

Mt 16:25 – For whoever wants to save their life will lose it,
but whoever loses their life for me will find it.

When God becomes part of your business team, His plans work better. Far better. The business mountain is the perfect place for Ecclesia, Reformation, discipling sons, and putting treasures in Heaven.

You’re not called to fund ministry. You’re called to BE the ministry. Your business is Father’s invitation to co-labor in Reformation. Your staff can gather around shared Kingdom purpose in an atmosphere that lifts the name of Jesus, that does the greater works (Jn 1:51, 14:12). Your business can be an Ecclesia, sent by Father to accomplish His Purpose, called according to His Purpose (Rom 8:28).

Instead of writing checks to fund someone else’s vision, start ascending to the Council to discover your own.

Engagement and ownership – Shedding serfdom for partnership
People will love you for it – When you prophetically see someone’s heart and help them connect with identity and purpose
Ecclesia happens – When people get clarity on what God wrote in their hearts, they fall in love with Jesus, us, and one another
