What Staff Engagement Feels Like
In A Kingdom Business
A sequel to “Disengaged? That’s Your Cue”
(Intro Video) Last time in we looked at the cue — the confessions everyone eventually makes: nothing to do (boredom), don’t know what to do (confusion), nothing is working (wasted effort), I’m waiting on God (excuses), and what to actually do with them: take them to the Courts and Council instead of pretending they’re not there. That piece stayed on the diagnostic side on purpose. It’s worth finishing the thought: once someone ascends and Hears, what does the other side of it look and feel like? Not as a theory, but as four things you can point to and say — yes, that, right there.

1). Â Relational 1-on-1 Connection
Engagement starts smaller than a mission statement. It starts with being seen. Someone experiences love — someone actually sees their heart, not just their output. That shows up three ways:
- Feeling chosen and destined, both by a leader and by God, woven into someone’s own heart rather than assigned from outside. Being chosen creates space to be myself.
- Having an actual place, a seat in Heaven’s Council that Jesus redeemed (“I go to prepare a place for you,” Jn 14:2-3), and a purposeful place on earth with a plan to make it real;
- Having a safe person — a leader in business who genuinely sees my why, not just my work.
- Kingdom business leaders father/mentor Sons and Daughters in the Courts and Council so they can bring Heaven to Earth at work; Sonship, Ascension, and Reformation are fundamental to our business vision; Birthing Sons who ascend to the Courts and Council and bring Reformation to People, Business, Cities, and Nations – It’s a big part of our business plan! We look for what God can do through sons/staff.
2). Â A Worthy Cause
This is where individual purpose stops being private and becomes shared — finding the higher purpose God already wrote in someone’s heart and discovering it overlaps with the unique corporate purpose. Three markers:
Connected, actually experiencing the conversations with Father where my heart and His overlap at work, not just intellectual assent to the theory, theology, and verses;
Creative, co-laboring with Father on the business’s purpose that came from God instead of merely executing someone else’s; and
Compelled — the plainest of the three, and worth saying directly: people will do more for a cause than they will for money. That’s not a slogan. It’s the whole reason a worthy cause outperforms a bigger paycheck. God created us for Greater Works (Jn 14:12, Eph 2:10).
3). Â My Contribution
Here’s where the secular and the Kingdom accounts of engagement actually converge, and it’s worth naming plainly: this section maps almost exactly onto Daniel Pink’s well-known research on motivation — autonomy, mastery, and purpose as the three real drivers of engaged work, ahead of money once basic needs are met.
Autonomy: real ownership of a responsibility, room for someone’s actual gift rather than a script to follow. I’m keeping in step with Holy Spirit, not just doing what I’m told.
Mastery: being genuinely good at what you do — craftsman, creator, initiator, leader — and being trusted to be. I have an anointing for innovation, creating value.
Accomplishment: feeling Father’s pleasure, being celebrated, creating real value and real cash flow. Bearing fruit that remains. Work is Father’s Greater Works, and it feels like worship; we’re offering something to Him that He values, the Isa 61 Reformation on Earth.
Pink’s research and this framework are describing the same territory from two different starting points — one from organizational psychology, one from Sonship.
4). Â Tribe / Community
Engagement finishes in belonging, not just in a business plan. Being part of an Ecclesia with a shared purpose — mutual esteem because hearts are seen, not competitive comparison. Other people esteem what’s in your heart, and you esteem theirs, a genuine Culture of Honor. Transparency feels safe. We intentionally set aside an hour a week for 1-on-1’s to clarify Identity, Story and Purpose in our staff, We intentionally mentor sons and daughters.
Having a “father” pulling on your story or heroism, and being a father pulling on someone else’s, inside the same tribe. Networking that’s actually generative — sharing ideas and opportunities to create real value and wealth together, not just trading exhortations. And the marker that ties the whole thing together: having fun, blessing nations, and making progress toward Reformation. Not someday. Now, in the actual room.
Â
What This Actually Confirms
Set this next to disengagement and the jailbreak in Sonship becomes obvious: every disengaged symptom named in the last blog has a precise, positive opposite here.
Nothing to do (boredom) becomes real contribution.
Don’t know what to do (Confusion)Â becomes a worthy cause rooted in my own purpose and identity.
Nothing is working or inspiring (Wasted Effort)Â becomes an Ecclesia celebrating accomplishments together.
Waiting on God (Excuses) becomes connecting with His heart in the Council, then co-laboring with Him today.
Now we’re having conversations and following the Lamb everyday.
The cue was never punishment for being stuck. It was pointing to your sonship the whole time.
Jn 15:11 – I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
That’s the actual test of whether engagement is real: not whether the work and warfare is hard — it usually still is — but whether the joy from co-laboring with Father is complete. Disengagement asks what’s wrong. Engagement is when hands go up to say, “Here am I Lord, send me.”
