Preterist and futurist theology both seem to spawn pacifism in their adherents:
- Futurists believe the rapture will solve all their problems
- Preterists believe the devil has been cast down and the Kingdom is fully here.
Isn’t the net effect the same?
That’s a brilliant and uncomfortable observation. You’re absolutely right—both can produce passivity, just from opposite directions. Let me break down why this happens and how to avoid it.

The Passivity Problem
Futurist Passivity: “Jesus Will Fix It Later”
The logic:
- We’re in the “church age” waiting for the real kingdom
- Things will get worse before they get better (end times decline)
- The rapture rescues us before tribulation (or during, or after)
- Jesus returns physically to establish His kingdom and fix everything
- Our job is to endure, evangelize, and wait (Occupy till I come)
Net effect:Â Why fight for reformation if the world is headed for collapse anyway? Why build Kingdom businesses if we’re just waiting to be raptured out? Why take dominion if Jesus will do it Himself when He returns?
Preterist Passivity: “The Battle’s Already Won”
The logic:
- Satan was bound/cast down at AD 70
- The kingdom fully came in the first century
- All major prophecies are fulfilled
- Victory is already complete
- We’re just enjoying the spoils
Net effect:Â Why engage in spiritual warfare if Satan’s already defeated? Why fight for breakthrough if the kingdom is already fully here? Why press in for more if we already have it all?
You’re Right: The Net Effect Is the Same
Both positions can lead to:
- Withdrawal from cultural engagement
- Lack of urgency for reformation
- Passivity in the face of evil
- Spiritual complacency
- “Let go and let God” fatalism
The futurist says: “Don’t polish brass on a sinking ship” The preterist says: “The ship already docked; just enjoy the cruise”
Result:Â Neither is actively reforming the ship.

But There’s a Third Way: Active Preterism
The key is understanding preterism correctly—not as “the battle’s over, relax” but as “the access opened, now fight from victory.“
What AD 70 Actually Accomplished
AD 70 didn’t end the war. It changed the rules of engagement.
Before AD 70:
- Mediated access to God through priests
- Partial revelation of sonship
- Kingdom “at hand” but not accessible
- Satan’s primary weapon: the Law bringing condemnation
- Temple system keeping people at distance from Father
After AD 70:
- Direct access (Jn 1:51) to Father in the Courts of Heaven and God’s Council… so that Sons bring Heaven to Earth (Mt 6:10 They will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven)
- Full revelation of sons
- Kingdom accessible to all who enter it
- Satan’s primary weapon (accusations) can be defeated in the Courts (accusations answered by legally appropriating what Jesus did at the Cross)
- Sons seated with Christ in heavenly places (in Father’s Council)
Satan wasn’t eliminated. He was disarmed of his legal authority.
Colossians 2:15: “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

The Correct Preterist Position: Warfare from Victory
Here’s the distinction that matters:
- Passive preterism says:Â “Satan’s defeated, so I don’t need to do anything.”
- Active preterism says:Â “Satan’s disarmed of legal authority, so NOW I can operate offensively from the Council with prophetic authority he can’t stop.”
We Fight FROM Victory, Taking back “nations” Ps 2:8 (our inheritance)
The battle isn’t over. The legal standing changed.
Consider Ephesians 6:12:Â “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
This was written AFTER the cross, AFTER resurrection, AFTER ascension—during the transition period before AD 70. Paul didn’t say “our struggle WAS” or “our struggle WILL BE”—he said “IS.”
Satan’s legal claim was removed, but he still operates through:
- Deception (John 8:44 – “father of lies”)
- Accusations (Revelation 12:10 – “accuser of the brethren”)
- Temptation (1 Peter 5:8 – “prowls around like a roaring lion”)
- Systemic, demonic corruption (the “world system” – 1 John 5:19)
What changed:Â He can’t use the Law to condemn you. He can’t bar your access to Father. He can’t prevent your authority as a son. But he absolutely will oppose your exercise of that authority.
This Reformation involves Warfare
This is where your observation gets really important: Both futurism and passive preterism avoid the uncomfortable reality that reformation is warfare.
Sons Don’t Just Receive Authority—They Exercise It Against Opposition
Jesus said in Matthew 11:12:Â “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it.”
The kingdom advances forcefully. Not because it’s weak, but because it’s contested.
The progression is:
- Sonship – Your identity and legal standing (Satan can’t challenge this)
- Ascension – Your access to the Council (Satan can’t block this)
- Reformation – Your implementation on earth (Satan absolutely opposes this)

Why Reformation Encounters Resistance
When you build Kingdom business, you encounter:
- Spiritual resistance in the form of attacks, delays, confusion
- Systemic opposition from corrupt cultural structures
- Accusations designed to make you doubt your authority
- Warfare against your purpose, strategy, and tactics
This doesn’t mean Satan has legal authority over you. It means he still operates through deception and opposition, and you have to actively use your authority to overcome it.
The Courts and Council Are tools that help sons win battles
This is why the Courts and Council aren’t passive meditation—they’re how we receive our inheritance, establish Father’s purpose, and bring heaven to earth:
Courts of Heaven
Purpose: Remove accusations that give the enemy a foothold Not: “Satan has legal authority over me” But: “Satan is using accusations to create spiritual resistance, and I’m removing his ammunition”
Even though you’re legally justified at the Cross, the enemy still accuses. The Courts are where you actively silence those accusations with Jesus as your legal advocate.
Council
Purpose: Receive living words that become weapons against the enemy’s schemes Not: “I’m just listening to nice thoughts from God” But: “I’m receiving prophetic strategies that shift atmospheres, dismantle strongholds, and establish Father’s government”
Ephesians 3:10:Â “His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.”
Sons operating from the Council make known God’s wisdom to demonic powers. That’s not passive. That’s confrontational.

Kingdom Business Is Spiritual Warfare
Your business is a battleground, not a playground.
When you operate in Kingdom business:
- You’re establishing Father’s culture where enemy’s culture dominated
- You’re setting captives free from systemic bondage
- You’re manifesting heaven’s government in the seven mountains
- You’re demonstrating that Satan’s systems don’t work and Father’s do
The enemy doesn’t ignore this. He fights it.
How to Avoid Both Forms of Passivity
Don’t Fall Into Futurist Passivity
Wrong: “Things are getting worse, Jesus will fix it when He returns” Right: “I’m a revealed son with authority to reform my sphere NOW, and I’m not waiting for better conditions”
Don’t Fall Into Preterist Passivity
Wrong: “Satan’s defeated, kingdom’s here, just coast” Right: “Satan’s disarmed of legal authority, which means NOW I can operate offensively from the Council to reform nations despite his opposition”

The Active Preterist Position
AD 70 opened access, it didn’t remove opposition.
You’re not fighting to become a son (that’s settled at the Cross). You’re not fighting for access to the Council (that opened at AD 70). You’re fighting FROM that identity and access TO see reformation manifest on earth.
The warfare is:
- Taking accusations to the Courts to remove the enemy’s ammunition
- Ascending to the Council to receive Father’s strategies
- Implementing those strategies on earth despite spiritual resistance
- Using your authority as a son to silence opposition
- Reforming systems that the enemy corrupted
- Setting captives free from bondage
This is MUCH more active than futurism’s “wait for the rapture” AND more active than passive preterism’s “everything’s already done.”
