10 Substitutes for Conversations in God’s Council
(and Why They Fall Short)

There is a hunger growing in Kingdom business—not just for success and money, but for fruit that remains and work that makes a difference in the world. God is inviting sons and daughters into Sonship, Ascension, and Reformation that start in the Courts & Council of Heaven. The shift is to relational conversations, not just principle-based formulas.

Too often, we have settled for substitutes. These “stand-ins” for God’s voice may feel spiritual, even successful at times, but they can never replace the living words that come with live conversations.

Here are 10 things substitute for Council Conversations—and why each one, though often well-intentioned, misses the mark and eventually goes down in flames like wood, hay, and stubble.

1) My Doctrine – the letter of the law that kills: principles, formulas, values, procedures, rules.

It’s easy to cling to principles, formulas, and rules thinking they will produce life. But the letter kills without the Spirit. When we prioritize doctrine over heart connection, we risk building Religious systems instead of keeping in step with the Holy Spirit. The Council is not accessed by intellectual mastery but by ascension to a table of living words that breathe Spirit and life.

We can become so anchored in formulas, principles, and procedures that we forget—truth is a person, the spirit of truth. The letter kills when it’s disconnected from the Spirit. Doctrine without dialogue leads to dead religion. Living words only come from living relationships.

2) My Identity – my rights and power as God’s son to ask whatever, do whatever.

While identity in Christ is foundational, it can become a shield for self-will. Declaring rights and authority without asking what the Father is doing can lead to presumption. Identity is not just what we’re entitled to, but who we are with Him—sons who listen, co-labor with the Father’s dynamic leading, and keep in step with the Holy Spirit.

Yes, we are sons and daughters. But when we wield our identity to justify self-will—“I can ask whatever I want because I’m a child of God”—we distort the relationship. True sonship listens. Identity as a son or daughter of the King grants access, not autonomy.

3) My Ministry – God has called me. He and you sustain my dream via offerings.

Ministry can become a golden calf when our calling overshadows our connection. If we’re more focused on building platforms than hearing God’s strategies, we’re operating in presumption. The Council is where blueprints are released—not to sustain our dreams, but to partner with His.

Ministry is noble, but it’s not the mission. When the dream God gave becomes the dream we run with—without checking back in—we risk drifting into self-preservation. The Council is where fresh blueprints are given, not just validation for what we’ve always dreamed or done.

4) My Heart’s Desire – God wrote the desires in my heart; He supports my dream.

Yes, God gives us desires—but they are meant to be shaped and refined through conversation with Him. Psalm 37:4 doesn’t promise God will rubber-stamp our ambitions; it invites us to delight in Him so that His desires become ours. The Council purifies and aligns desires to Heaven’s purpose.

God gives us the desires of our heart—but those desires compliment His desires, instead of competing with them. When we assume our dream equals God’s dream, we skip the refining fire of alignment. The Council is  conversations that align my heart’s desires with Father’s heart.

5) My Resume – God expects me to make my own decisions (Pro 3:5, 14:12, 1Cor 3:19).

Leaning on logic and self-made plans often feels responsible, even spiritual. But business decisions require Kingdom discernment. Human wisdom, without Council consultation, is limited and often rooted in fear or self-preservation. Trust in the Lord means we ask—first, often, and always.

God gave us a mind—but not to live independently of Him. When we make decisions based solely on logic, trends, best practices, or past experience, we lean on a tree that cannot bear Kingdom fruit. Kingdom wisdom is revealed—not just reasoned.

6) My Church – we have 5-fold ministries to equip the saints, give us revelation.

Church cannot replace personal communication with God. Five-fold ministries are meant to equip us, not replace intimacy. Revelation comes from God; ministries echo what is already being said.

The Church equips, teaches, and encourages. But even pastors and prophets can’t substitute for personal counsel from the King. Five-fold ministry points you to the throne, but the invitation is for you to come boldly and hear firsthand. The Kingdom goal is following the lamb, not the leader.

7) My Charismatic Crumbs – Holy Spirit lives in me, my hunches are God’s guidance.

A hunch or a spontaneous word isn’t the full meal God is offering. Discernment grows when we press in beyond charismatic impressions and seek confirmations and conversations in the Council. Living words have weight. They don’t just inspire—they commission.

Impressions, hunches, and promptings can be genuine—but they’re not relational dialogue. God wants to give more than “a word”; He wants a conversation. Prophetic breadcrumbs are the Holy Spirit giving us a topical invitation to the Council to get the full story.

8) Man’s Ways – other people do it, believe it, and it makes money, so I do it too.

Just because it works for others doesn’t mean it’s God’s strategy for us. Copying methods may yield results, but not fruit that remains. Council conversations yield original instruction—tailored to our calling, our timing, and our authority. Heaven’s voice trumps human tradition.

Just because it works for others—or has been done that way for years—doesn’t mean it’s what God is asking you to do. Heaven’s strategies are often counter-cultural and counter-intuitive. You can’t hear God clearly while echoing the crowd.

9) Fake Faith – my positive thoughts, confession, affirmations, and meditation manifest my desires.

Positive affirmations and mental focus can mimic faith, but without divine agreement, they’re empty. True faith comes from hearing—a conversation with Father, Jesus, and the 7 Spirits. The Council is where faith is birthed, not hyped up. We don’t manifest desires—we co-labor in Father’s Purpose.

Positive thinking, confession, and declarations apart from God’s Living Words are not faith—they’re hype. Real faith comes from hearing—not just repeating. Council conversations birth faith that moves mountains because they carry God’s authority.

10) Imitation – I can copy false narratives, prophets, and anointings. It works!

Mimicking someone else’s message, mantle, or miracles might look fruitful—but it’s fruit without root. There’s no shortcut to authority and fruit. In the Council, we receive our assignment, not a recycled one. God’s anointing rests on authenticity, not performance.

Copying someone else’s calling or charisma may produce results, but not lasting fruit. True authority flows from authenticity. In the Council, God reveals your purpose and story—not someone else’s script. Heaven doesn’t anoint imposters.

The Real Invitation

God is not distant. He’s not hiding. He’s inviting. His Council is welcoming sons and daughters who are willing to trade formulas for friendship, and ambition for alignment.

Let’s stop settling for substitutes. The world doesn’t need more polished sermons or clever marketing strategies—it needs people who’ve heard from Heaven, carry living prophetic words, and bear fruit that remains in business.
