We all yearn for purpose and meaningā€”itā€™s what fuels our joy and fulfillment in life. Deep down, we want to hear, ā€œWell done!ā€ from our Father. Yet, many lack clarity on their unique purpose or destiny and may not realize this understanding can come directly from conversations with God. Most go dumpster diving in assessments, other peopleā€™s causes, politics, philanthropy, church, etc. Ā Here are a few of the things we substitute for Kingdom Purpose:

Personality profiles ā€“ While we are ā€œfearfully and wonderfully made,ā€ the belief that our personality type alone will reveal a fulfilling career is misleading. Purpose doesnā€™t reside in a personality profile.

5-Fold ministry gifts ā€“ Yes, I may have one or more (Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher). There are so many shipwrecks of people who have pursued pulpits instead of purpose, assuming they were in the will-of-God.

Identity ā€“ Jesus was a Son, Profit, Priest, and King; so are we, but identity isnā€™t a source of purpose or direction.

Communication style ā€“ Motivator, Challenger, Commander, Healer, Professor, Seer, Mavenā€¦ you probably do have a bias in your personality for how you communicate. Itā€™s still not direction or purpose.

Busyness instead of Business ā€“ Many conclude that working and making money is my purpose. Although you can preoccupy yourself for decades going down that dead end, staying busy isnā€™t purpose, itā€™s a hiding place, a band aide for lack of purpose.

This entire family of substitutes have one deception in common. They tempt me to believe I can find my purpose within myself without a conversation with my Father. Itā€™s not possible to milk direction out of introversion; out of how you like to work, what youā€™re good at, or even how God wired you.

Some people talk to the universe regarding their dreams. The problem with the universe is it just mirrors back what you want. When you talk to God there is a conversation that includes what He wants. In other words, Father isnā€™t Santa Claus, Sorry! However, He can show you the real desires of your heart that match His, and He can help you get there.

The Three Components of Kingdom Purpose

Kingdom purpose is a dynamic path that unfolds through a living conversations with Father. It has three main components:

#1. Ā Life Calling (Destiny)Ā ā€“ This is our broader calling, a purpose thread that weaves its way throughout our story (past, present, and future).

#2. Ā Daily BreadĀ ā€“ These are conversations in the Council, fresh insights and guidance that are like Fatherā€™s manna and mercies ā€“ new every morning.

#3. Ā Practical Action (Business)Ā ā€“ This involves implementing our purpose in business, partnering with God to bring it to life.

Prophetic Agility ā€“ One of the challenges of fulfilling our Kingdom Purpose is balancing our long-term destiny with daily redirection. This is what we callĀ prophetic agility. While some dismiss this as ā€œcharismatic craziness,ā€ itā€™s a practical way of following Godā€™s lead with both consistency and adaptability.

  • God has a long-term plan, and you can know what that is. Although we donā€™t know every detail of the distant future, we know we donā€™t have to carry it out alone!
  • The second ingredient of sonship is that we can follow the lamb wherever (Rev 14:4). That might seem to contradict destiny, but wherever is that circuitous path that leads exactly to your dream or destiny. Your daily bread, your manna, and Fatherā€™s mercies are new every morning. Itā€™s your prophetic agilitythat builds the bridge from destiny to the chaos of spiritual warfare and daily, divine disruptions.
    • To See and Do what Father is doing (Jn 5:19-20)
    • To Say what Father is saying (Jn 12:49-50)
    • To Follow the Lamb wherever (Rev 14:4)
    • To Keep in step with Holy Spirit (Gal 5:25)

An Engaged Staff or Team ā€“ Destiny, the long-term vision of where weā€™re going is the prophetic juice that inspires everyone else. Your ability to articulate credible purpose in the spirit is what allows other people to engage. It just had to be prophetically correct for them to resonate. In other words, it originates from the throne, not your personal whim. You hear it in the Council just like everyone else.

A Creative Culture ā€“ the third dynamic of business is change. Natural circumstances, the people or clients you work with, and your Father are changing all the time. Father is continually making mid-course corrections and giving hints at new ideas all the time. The nature of Godā€™s Kingdom is that itā€™s very dynamic. There is nothing static about it.

  • When the branches (you and me) are connected to the vine (Jesus), all those changes represent business opportunities for new directions, new technology, and new networks.
  • A staff who can grasp Fatherā€™s purpose and the dynamic nature of the Kingdom will relish the opportunity to contribute new solutions.
  • CEO overwhelm is just the signal that your staff isnā€™t yet engaged in the purpose (or) hasnā€™t yet been delegated their piece of the action (by you).

Sons and Daughters know two things:

  • They know Father is faithful to reveal his strategy and we are faithful to be present in His Council.
  • Our Father wants to work through us; to do greater works through His sons and daughters.

Ā

Jn 14:12 ā€“ ā€¦ they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā 13)Ā  Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā And I will do whatever you ask in my name,
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Jn 15:15 ā€“ ā€¦ everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
16) Ā Ā ā€¦ I chose you and appointed you

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  ļƒ  so that you might go and bear fruitā€”fruit that will lastā€”
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ļƒ  so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
