We are all adept at making excuses. Excuses have power because they are rooted in some aspect of truth or reality. They often stem from spiritual accusations. When we verbalize them, they sound prophetic in the same way accusations have a prophetic tone that is spoken over us, not just by us. Excuses are the spiritual language of those under the captivity of a victim mentality (that’s how they think). But I want to suggest it’s deeper than what we think. We are under a covenant from a prior compromise. The accuser doesn’t just throw out accusations randomly (he has a legal basis), and we don’t make excuses by accident (we’re stuck in unbelief and accept them). Inside the excuse, there is a thread that goes back to generational compromise that is undone in the Courts of Heaven. We don’t have to accept excuses! Sprinkling in a better attitude and a positive confession doesn’t address the root cause of excuses and accusations. That is accomplished in the courts of heaven.
Num. 13:33 – And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. KJV
Num. 14:6-9 – Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them. NIV
Amos 2:9 – I (the Lord) destroyed the Amorite before them, though he was tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below. NIV
Courts of heaven – What is the accusation that empowers the excuse? Where did it originate? Repent for the legal compromise wherever it may be. If I find a generational compromise in a covenant, I will bring it to the cross. If it bore negative fruit in my own life, I will repent and bring that to the cross as well.
Decrees – The positive side of the equation is asking the Lord for the decrees that go with our Book or destiny. We live by these decrees. We are here to invoke them with our words and works to bring His Kingdom to earth. Decrees are living words heard in heaven (Jesus Testimony about us). We live by them. Matt. 3:16 – Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.‘” NIV
There is nothing particularly magic about our words, except when they are decrees that originate in heaven (In Jesus’ name). Then we are saying what the Father says and doing what the Father is doing; our words carry creative and redemptive power.
Sons operate in this simple dynamic. Their eyes and ears are in the council with the Father, then they are on earth saying and doing what they saw and heard in heaven (with amazing authority and fruitfulness). Those decrees are keys to the kingdom that bind and loose on earth. Jesus didn’t send his disciples out to preach in meetings. They were with Him, and when he sent them out, they proclaimed the decrees that he had given them to set captives free. Sons are with Him in the council to receive words or decrees we use to bring heaven to earth (Reformation).
Matt. 16:15-19 – “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” NASU
Mark 3:14 – He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to proclaim. NIV (Preach G2784 – proclaim, publish, be a herald, always with a suggestion of formality, gravity, and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed)
