The pattern of communication in Christianity is preaching. We share information hoping to convert others to our beliefs. Kingdom has a different twist. We are builders inviting others to share an initiative.
Our Father is a builder and so are His kids.
For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Heb 11:10 NIV
For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house… Heb 3:4-6 NIV
A Builder technites is an artisan or founder. The word implies productivity and ability in terms of art or a trade and the skill to create and then build. Art, trade, development and being entrepreneurial are all inspirational and motivational… doctrine is not. Sound doctrine is important and can keep our relationship with God healthy (what to build and where to build it), but sermons alone do not change us. Our hearts are transformed when we “see” the purpose and activity for which we were created and then decide to move and engage (work).
That simple realization of how our hearts work changes leadership from instruction to example. We are connecting hearts with purpose that is defined by a rendezvous with a builder… a Father with whom we co-labor and co-create. Theories, theology, doctrines, principles, philosophies and identities never satisfy hearts until they have an application and some fruit from our labor. It’s God who connects the ideas of work, wisdom and prosperity. Our lives are fun and blessed when our hearts are connected with the purpose and work we are uniquely designed for.
In all labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty. 24 The crown of the wise is their riches, But the folly of fools is foolishness. Prov 14:23-24 NASU
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matt 7:24-25 NIV
Show me – Bosses, managers, teachers and preachers tell us what to believe, what to do and to “go.” Builders and mentors show us how and do it with us. They invite us to come and co-labor instead of telling us to go and do. The sweetest fellowship isn’t works, but it is working together and building something great in our mountain that has Kingdom value.
Real leaders are always builders. Builders are inviting people to connect with the artist God put in their hearts and showing them (by example) how to be fruitful… how to architect something new and make it manifest in the earth. They navigate the real world of commerce, finances and prosperity.
Here is the secret of being a builder. When we connect people with the purpose in their hearts and help them become productive citizens in both the Kingdom and their real-world culture, we are building “them” – those people are God’s house. The apostolic function of being a wise master builder is building God’s house by connecting people, Kingdom purpose, vocation and ministry in their mountain. Builders release people into their own hearts and into their own destiny.
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation… Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? …for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. 1 Cor 3:10-17 NASU
