Why Step Out of the Boat?

Why Step Out of the Boat?
Why Kings Are Different – We’ve had a season of interviews that provides an opportunity to meet another batch of Kings out there doing exploits. Mike Dana and John Klien are two recent examples and there are 3 or 4 more we’ll feature in future weeks. They are enterprising, creative, fruitful, prosperous, and totally excited about expanding the Kingdom of God to bless the rest of the world. They are not just businessmen; Duane Smith is a realtor that put together a community crusade and conference attended by 800 pastors in India. Duane was inspired by another “engineer” friend of his who spends his vacations doing evangelistic crusades that he personally funds and organizes. The latest was in Pakistan, “more than 55,000 participated in the historical healing crusade and approximately 20,000-25,000 turned their lives towards God”. That’s a quote from the local Pakistani newspaper! Think about it! An engineer said “why not” and went and did it.
“Come” and join the party – I can’t resist trying to package their anointing for the rest of us. Why do they step out of the boat and others stay in? Why do some venture into the marketplace while others retain refuge inside the church?… Why are we prone to find sanctuary inside the sanctuary?
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matt 14:28-31 NIV
Let’s Roll – Todd Beamer’s phrase echoed in our hearts after the 9/11 crash in Pennsylvania. He symbolized in one heroic act the key ingredient of people that make a difference in the Kingdom; they do something. Some are willing take initiative. Peter’s walk on the water didn’t really start with Jesus; it started with a desire in Peter. He asked the Lord to tell him to come… In fact as we read the New Testament most of what Jesus did was in response to a request. Most of us (especially spirit-filled Christians) have a theology that requires God to take the initiative before we act. We are proud of our humility, ability to obey, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and our servant status. However, Kings just aren’t that way. Right or wrong, they are out there doing things… and you know what: God is multiplying their impact in the market place and putting His favor on them.
Aside – A few years a ago I would have led the pack in refuting the above paragraph with regard to the evils of lone rangers, presumption, independent spirits, rebellion, etc. No longer – I’ve met too many people in the marketplace that are making it happen. I’ve seen the favor of God on their lives. I’m hungry for the same thing. And, as the word is getting out that God is Releasing Kings, there is now beginning a jail break of reformational proportions.
Start Asking – Here’s a principle throughout scripture that we may have missed. God is searching for a love relationship with people that are willing to ask for their own heart’s desire… not for some brash, selfish request; they are more mature than that. But, they do move an occasional mountain or conduct an occasional crusade. They initiate the request in confidence because they know they were created in God’s image; that he’s placed his own desires in their hearts. They view themselves as Kings; friends of God that share the Lord’s burden our cities and nations.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Matt 7:7-8
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matt 7:11-12
“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” Matt 18:19-20
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:24-25
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:11-14
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:7-8 NKJV (See Ps 91)
I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:23-24
Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. James 4:2-3 NKJV
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 1 John 3:21-22
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Ask big. We serve a big God with a big task to build the Kingdom and He’s looking for people with big hearts. Go ye.
Life is an adventure. People are a blessing. God is amazing. We’re winning.
